Peacock Hill
Sri Lanka

Hike to Peacock Hill Sri Lanka, so called “Monara Kanda” is a relatively easy one. You almost can reach the top by your own vehicle & from there it will take only 30min trek to the top. Peacock Hill is situated near the Pussellawa town in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. Height is approximately 1518m & provides an amazing view of the surrounding mountains & valleys. You can have a great view of the highest mountain Piduruthalagala, Nuwaraeliya to Kothmale valley, Kabaragala mountain, Ramboda falls, Sri Padaya as well as the famous tower Ambuluwawa if you look around.

Hope you read my first day experience at Kadiyanlena falls blog. Let me continue from there.

1700hrs – We left Kadiyanlena falls & herding to our camping destination Peacock hill. So we began our journey to Peacock Hill. On our way two times we mistakenly followed a wrong route. Finally reached the destination at 1950hrs. If we did not get lost it will only take less than one hour (35KM) to reach Peacock hill. We bought our food & other needful for the night on the way. Our bus met with an accident when we were almost at our destination. Luckily, there was not much of a damage.

Since it was the first time of all of us it took around extra 30min to look for the camping site on top. There were few telecommunication towers there and some constructions on top of the hill. Abandoned building & another temporary house & a small constructing temple with a statue. Felt like it destroys the nature there. May be because we did not see the surrounding & around the cliff.

After finding a place to camp in dark we placed our tents there. Meanwhile few of us went to find some woods for our campfire. We used the abandoned building to prepare our dinner.

2100hrs – We finished our preparing & lit the fire and sat around the campfire to fill out our bellies. We enjoyed noodles & some leaf of bread. Four tents were already set up for our sweet dreams besides. We had a good chat over there & it was a good time to share our experience. Until midnight we sang songs & dance a bit too. Day after tomorrow is a full moon day. So the brighten moon influenced us as well to stay awake little bit more. As I remembered it was around

0100hr – The last person came to the tent. The weather is not so cold as I felt that night. Until morning it was like dead because we were tired AF.

Morning - Peacock Hill Sri Lanka

0530hrs – Woke up, The view was amazing which almost covered around the mountain. We waited until sun rise to make ourselves warm. Golden rays kissed the Kothmale lake throughout the Mahavali river. Luckily the sky was clear. Nuwaraeliya to Kothmale area was captured on the top left most photo. The highest peak was Pidurutalagala. Sri padaya ( Adam’s peak ) was also raised up from another side.

Rest of the day - Peacock Hill

0830hrs – By that time our breakfast was prepared by the girls (nothing much bread with jam & coffee). We took our breakfast, packed our shelters & climb down the mountain to make our journey to Chariot path. Our driver was waiting there for us. He slept in the bus & we took some of our meal for him. He was very kind & friendly from the beginning. So he became one of our trip buddy throughout the journey, not as an usual driver.
